Body of missing Spring Lake teen found
Two people were in custody late Thursday in the death of a Spring Lake teen whose body was found earlier in the day in woods near the Harnett County line, authorities said.
The body of Vincent Carlisle Jr., 17, of the 100 block of Carmichael Lane, was found Thursday afternoon about 100 yards into a densely wooded area along Shady Grove Road, just north of Spring Lake, investigators said. His body was being sent to the state medical examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
Authorities confirmed that two people were being held without bail at the Harnett County jail on first-degree murder charges Thursday night. Their names were not released.
Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, said the slaying appeared to have taken place in Harnett County, and deputies there were taking over the investigation.
Repeated calls seeking comment from Sheriff Larry Rollins and other officials in Harnett County were not returned.
Carlisle would have been a senior at Johnathan's House Christian Academy in Fuquay-Varina. He loved playing basketball and talked about going to college when he graduated, said his uncle, Clarence Gaddy. He described Carlisle as outgoing, friendly and easy to get along with.
"He loved everybody and everybody loved him," Gaddy said. "He didn't meet no strangers."
Carlisle's friend, 18-year-old Brian Ritchey, said they last saw each other Saturday, when they did what Carlisle loved to do: play basketball.
"He played basketball, liked to go party, have fun, dance, talking to females, hanging out with the fellas," Ritchey said.
Family members said they last heard from Carlisle about 10 p.m. Sunday when he left the house, possibly to meet some friends. Everything at the time seemed fine.
But then Carlisle vanished. He hadn't logged on to his Facebook page since Sunday afternoon. Calls to his cellphone were going straight to voice mail, family members said.
