Consequently, there will be an increase in the consumer usage as well as the number of end user devices. In turn, this will put significant strain on network equipment. To address the customers’ desire for increased capacity, scalability, and reliability, while still minimizing rack space and power requirements, RGB Networks developed the VMG-8 chassis.The new VMG-8 chassis encloses all the capabilities of the VMG family in a seven rack unit (RU) high carrier-grade chassis. It can hold up to eight modules. Ideal for small to medium-sized deployments or deployments at the edge, it facilitates VSPs to better meet their growing TV Everywhere requirements, such as supporting an ever expanding range of end user device types, and more.
With the help of the new VMG-8, VSPs can deliver a complete multi-screen TV Everywhere service with exceptional reliability. It can be configured with three video transcoder modules, one audio transcoder module and a single controller module for transcoding programs to over 140 streams for delivery to any IP-enabled device.
As a compact alternative to the company’s larger VMG-14, the VMG-8 features a redundant configuration with each module type having a back-up that can take over operation when the primary unit fails. In addition, it is also provided with back-up power supplies and cooling fans which automatically take over in the event a primary unit fails.
The VMG-14 also houses the company’s AMP module, a flexible Linux-based blade. It offers greater capacity and facilitates for the simultaneous processing of over 500 streams in a single chassis.
Apart from having the scalability that can meet VSPs current and future modules with greater power or cooling requirements, the VMG-8 is further enhanced by capability to be powered by either AC or DC power supplies integrated within its chassis.
