Welcome to a real company town
Tucked in a nondescript office park in Beltsville, the $12 million office project has been the brainchild of Chief Executive Rick Rudman for 15 years. The company, founded in 1991, makes public relations software.
During a tour last Monday, Rudman described the concept as a social office where the company’s employees, who used to be divided among three offices in Lanham, have several common areas to gather and interact.
“It will be worth it just to create an environment where people are happy,” Rudman said. “I firmly believe happier people means happier customers.”
Skylights dot the blue ceiling to pull in natural light while pavers guide staff around the 93,000 square foot facility. There’s Sterling Bank, home to the finance department. The Engine 140 firehouse, Bob’s Garage auto repair and Side Burns barber shop are themed conference rooms with corresponding decor.
But there’s as much play as work. African safari-themed Rick’s Coffee House boasts a $10,000 coffee machine. Golding’s Gym houses exercise equipment, a juice bar and an indoor half basketball court. The dimly lit Seaside Spa allows for quiet moments beside a saltwater fish tank.
As an employee put it to be Monday, "I feel like I'm at Disney World or the entrance to Six Flags."
