Brandt Snedeker Bubba Watson and set the tone early in the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship on Saturday, but late fees by Adam Scott, Nick Watney and Charl Schwartzel has left five players within two shots of the lead entering the last two rounds.

“I played good,” said Watson.  “I made a lot of putts. I made an eagle on 7 again, two days in a row, which is always nice. Today I hit driver. All we were trying to do was hit the front edge. The pin was in the front. I hit 5‑iron, hit it to about, I don't know, 12 feet, and then somehow made that putt for eagle.”

Kansas Golfers Hit Consecutive Aces In Match Play - Waggle Room

Everyone who's ever played match play knows the feeling of hitting a great shot that pretty much seals the deal on taking a hole.  Maybe it's a great putt leaving a tap in, or maybe it's a good approach shot that falls into the cup.  The royal flush of that kind of shot, though, has to be a hole-in-one.  Hit one of those, and aside from the superb feeling of taking the game's ultimate stroke, in match play there's the certainty that you just won that hole.  Put the iron in the bad, leave the putter and enjoy the cool breeze when the cart drives to the hole.

No one ever expects to get halved -- that is, their opponent matches that hole in one with a hole in one.  It recently happened in Kansas: at Hesston Golf Park in Witchita, Greg Bontranger and Justin Pressnall, two relative strangers, were in match play when they came to the 212 yard par 3 17th.  Pressnall played first, hitting a solid six-iron that was going to definitely leave him close.  Another player in the foursome that day said that it was better than that...that it had gone into the cup.

Bontranger followed in the afterglow of all of the excitement and took his stroke. His shot was good too...really good.

He also found the back of the cup for a half.

What are the chances? According to the hole in one national registry: about 17 million to one. That's about the same chance as winning the Powerball lottery national - it varies between 16 and 18 million according to most estimates.

For the record, this event was not one of those fish stories we hear from time to time where a guy made a dubious claim to hit consecutive holes in those where there is little or no credible witnesses. "Believe me, I did," said Joe Isuzu's, and of course everyone does ..... not.Instead, the extremely rare pair of aces was well seen, well documented and certified authentic, 100% for real.

If only I had been there to see. Hot as it is in Witchita this week, everyone probably appreciated the free drinks too.
