Aussie PM defends job amid reports of gov't rift
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has defended its work Friday after newspapers reported divisions in the ranks of government leadership and policy scuttled to send hundreds of asylum seekers Malaysia.
The government is reeling from a decision of the High Court on Wednesday that his foiled plan to send 800 asylum seekers in Kuala Lumpur in a policy of discouraging others to journey to Australia by boat.
The decision is a major blow to the credibility of the ruling Labor Party, which was already plumbing record lows in opinion polls.Anonymous government sources told the press Gillard could soon be toppled as leader of his party in an internal coup government.
But Gillard told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio Friday that none of his colleagues had raised his frustration with his leadership.
"I'm not going anywhere," Gillard told ABC. "I am the best person for the job and I will continue to do so."
Poor opinion polls led legislators to dump then Labour Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in favor of Gillard in June last year.
But Labour vote has now worsened to catastrophic levels Gillard in two years out of the next election.
Gillard was elected in August last year with a promise to send asylum seekers to a regional treatment center that Australia would build on East Timor. East Timor has never accepted the plan, so Gillard has turned its attention to Malaysia with a policy which is now in tatters. The High Court also casts doubt on another proposal to send asylum seekers on an island off malaria in Papua New Guinea.
The government is also burdened by Gillard promises never to introduce a tax on carbon emissions, and most commentators give no chance of Directors to retain power in 2013 elections. Instead, most say the work should focus on limiting the impending loss.
"The idea of a replacement is no longer pie in the sky," an unnamed government minister told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Authorities expect the High Court ruling will trigger a surge in asylum seekers leaving Malaysian and Indonesian ports by boat bound for Australia. (This version CORRECTS spelling of former prime minister's name.)

The Australian government, however, is expected to still be bound under the deal to accept 4000 refugees from Malaysia, while being unable to send 800 asylum seekers here for processing. Wednesday's ruling effectively makes permanent an injunction

I Zeni, this is my link to the video, http://www.islandreefjob.com/ # / applicants/watch/BmQo5WeCj_o I'm the guy who works for Colorado College and has that cool "cloning" picture of me in all my "gear" in my video. I wanted to write a brief description of why I am the right person for the job. Also, I wanted you to know the things I've done to help with exposure for Queensland Garner and myself. Yes, I'm hoping this will help my chances of being selected for the list of 50 people short.Become a guardian of the island would be a dream come true for me as I figure it would be many other candidates. You have a difficult task that awaits you. Choose 50 people among the thousands of candidates will not be easy. I have seen some good applications and some not so good. In my review of the competition, I saw people singles, couples and families. I am technically one of the singles, although, as I said in my application, because of my network of family and friends, I really am a virtual "Everyman." I say I am "Everyman" for two reasons.First, I have the skill and the ability to live while the average person would try on the islands. I can snorkel, dive, sail, hike and camp just as easily as I can relax and enjoy the pampering to lie out and go to the spa. All my life, my parents showed me both the extravagance of 5 star hotels and meals and the practice of the picnic on the beach (a picnic in my family is always about the food authentic good). I come from a family practice that embraces life. My parents made the choice of conscience in life and my sister and I want to know how to travel around the world and be comfortable everywhere. The other reason I feel I am capable of being "Everyman" is in my plan for how I experience the islands. I plan to highlight the varying possibilities of the Whitsundays by my friends and family experiences.
